NSWP Funding

The National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP) supports student and school community well-being in over 3,000 school communities each year. The new NSWP opens up the former National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP), giving schools the option to choose a qualified student wellbeing officer, School chaplain or a Pastoral Care Worker (PCW).

It is administered by state and territory governments.

The program in a scope

What does a worker do? 

  • Work with existing programs/services in the school

  • Liaise with school welfare team and counsellor

  • Work with local community groups/services

  • Camps, excursions, and other activities

  • Mentor and support students

  • Provide support for staff, students and school community

  • Assist with student-led activities

What does ASK wellbeing services do?

ASK Wellbeing Services is recognised and authorised under respective State Education Departments as a The National School Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP).

We are mainly responsible for:

  • Registering the school and worker

  • Reporting finances to the Dept. of Education (Federal and/or State)

  • Recruiting potential workers

  • Additionally, we provide all our workers with Individual/group training and support

What are the steps to the program?

Step 1

The School and School Community Agrees to have a Wellbeing worker (NSWP) school applies for The National School Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP) funding through the relevant state Education Department School nominates ‘ASK Wellbeing Services’ as their Provider/AgencySchool can apply for the School NSWP funding for next 4 years (2024-27)

Step 2

The Department of Education (Federal and/or State) receives the school application School is informed of the funding outcome Once approved funds are released to the funding recipient at the beginning of each school term.

Step 3

ASK wellbeing services agrees to be the funding recipient for the school. ASK wellbeing services and the school sign the Work Service Agreement, ASK wellbeing services starts recruitment and employment process.

Step 4

ASK wellbeing services and The Worker must meet minimum requirements set out by the Department of Education (Federal and/or State) The worker must have completed either a Cert IV in Youth work or Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy or an equivalent qualification which includes the three core units: ‘Respond to Client needs’, ‘Work with people with mental health issues’ & ‘Provide loss and grief support’.
